Why I Have Grown to Like Empty Space

Empty space does not decide what should happen next on my behalf.

Some things begin to reveal their shape only after everything around them grows quiet.

A piece of writing needs pauses. A day does not need somewhere to go from morning until night.

I rarely plan my time too tightly. Not because I am waiting for something, but because I want the next moment to retain other possibilities.

The unoccupied parts of a page feel much like the undecided parts of life.

They offer no answer, yet leave the direction open.

Perhaps it is not emptiness itself that I like, but the fact that it does not decide for me what should happen next.
