Consumer Brand Alcohol Extension

- Context
- Accenture formal online internship
- Role
- Consulting analyst assistant · Independent research and staged delivery
- Scope
- Alcohol-category extension · Four stages · 60–70 hours
The assignment examined how an established dairy business might evaluate an extension into alcohol. The task was not to find attractive language for a new idea, but to make the evidence, conditions, and risks behind market entry visible.
The question
Could an established brand, distribution network, and supply chain transfer into a category with different regulation, consumption logic, and competitive structure?
Work system
Market environment
Mapped category structure, regional variation, consumer change, and routes to market before judging whether a credible opening existed.
Output: Market environment studyFeasibility
Placed market opportunity and organisational capability in one frame, separating transferable strengths from new pressures.
Output: Feasibility analysisCommercial strategy
Developed a set of testable choices around audiences, positioning, portfolio, and channel entry.
Output: Commercial strategyRisk & operations
Extended the direction into team, quality, cost, channel, and financing requirements.
Output: Risk and operating guidanceFrom information to judgement
A market is not one number
Concentration, regional preference, and channel structure shape entry difficulty; national scale is not the same as obtainable space.
Transfer must be tested
Brand recognition and distribution may shorten a cold start, while production, compliance, and consumption occasions still need to be rebuilt.
The conclusion is conditional
The work did not end with “enter” or “do not enter”, but with prerequisites, costs, and stopping conditions.
Decision structure
Whether demand, competition, and regional openings support a pilot.
How far brand, distribution, and supply-chain strengths can transfer.
What building, partnering, or limited testing would each require.
When quality, compliance, cost, or organisation should stop the move.
